Luis 'Lucky' Manzano on reaching maturity, finding new love, and investing on a new home
It is almost inevitable for children of celebrity couples to eventually venture into show business. Being the son of veteran actors Vilma Santos and Edu Manzano, many like to think that Luis Manzano is indeed ‘Lucky’ to have fame served to him on a silver platter. Luis, however, has managed to step out of the shadows of his parents and make a name for himself as he test the waters in show business.
As a teenager, Lucky has appeared on several print and commercial advertisements. His ability to make young girls swoon has made him one of the most sought-after bachelors in the business. His photos often landed in front covers of glossy teen magazines. Later on, he ventured into acting and hosting which he simultaneously does until now.
Given his talented genes, it is no wonder why he excelled as a performer. As a host, Luis recently won the Outstanding Adapted Reality/Competition Program Host for Pilipinas Got Talent. As an actor, his most noted performance so far was in the movie, In My Life, which he top-billed along with his own mother, Vilma Santos, and John Lloyd Cruz. In the movie, Luis played the gay lover of John Lloyd. Aside from having the Star for All Seasons play as the mother of Luis for the first time, the movie caused so much hype because it also highlighted a kissing scene between the two actors.
For Luis, performing a gay role was his way of showing his maturity as an actor. Thus, saying in an interview in the October 2009 issue of Chalk magazine that, “Every artist has to grow. I’m not 16, I’m not 20, I’m not 25. I’m in no mood to do teeny-bopper roles. I wanted to do something different.”
Luis is not the typical type of hunk actor whos always concerned about how good he looks in front of the camera. He is not afraid to show his goofy side during live shows and is never at a loss for words. Apparently, he also does not care if critics brand him of being a real-life homosexual because of portraying one gay role. He let his actions do the talking.
When it comes to women, Lucky has a record of being in a few, but long term relationships. His breakup with Angel Locsin in 2009 has led him to meet Kapuso actress and sparring partner in Muay Thai and Jiu-jitsu, Jennylyn Mercado, whom he has been exclusively going out with early this year. After insisting for months that they haven’t reached “formality”in their relationship, Luis finally admitted in an interview with Darlasauler.com last month that they are finally an item.
“Sabi ko nga, life has its way of surprising us, pero we still have a long way to go... Kumbaga before, we had our feet sa grey area . Pero ngayon kumbaga, we know where we stand.”
Asked what she liked the most about Jen, the actor mused how the actress is “very, very malambing” and “very, very maalaga.” He also shared that Jen knows how to pamper him by baking and cooking for him.
Meanwhile, Jen also has nothing but praises to give Luis even before they were formally a couple. In her statement in The Buzz last May, the actress revealed that “Luis is what you really call a true gentleman.” She also feels “lucky” because Luis“has everything a girl could ask for.”
“Lahat ng gusto ng babae meron siya. Gwapo, matangkad, edukado, ganda ng katawan (naks!) good sense of humor, intelligent, and most of all, he knows how to treat a lady.”
Since Lucky and Jen finally admitted they were a couple, it was also reported that Lucky has started doing the final touches in his newly-renovated house. This sent rumors flying that Lucky might be preparing to have a family of his own.
To answer the issue, Lucky said during an interview in the promo shoot of ABS-CBN’ss newest primetime drama, Alta, that it might take a while before he could finally settle down.
“Hindi naman. Matagal-tagal pa yun. But of course it’s bound to happen. Prepared na rin ako sa future kaysa sa huli pa.”
