A debutante with a heart
A day before her actual birthday, or on May 14, 2005, Jennylyn Mercado celebrated the occasion with simplicity and humility that proves this young star has her heart in the right place.
Instead of a grand debutante party, Jennylyn chose to share her blessings with children from a charitable institution very close to her heart -- the Christian Mission Service Philippines, Inc. (CMSP). It is a non-government organization that operates with basic funding support from its partner organization Christlicher Missiondienst (CMD) headquartered in Germany, supplementary assistance from two Japanese organizations, and a few local groups.
The children came in all ages and from various backgrounds. Most of them came from abused homes and are now being cared for by CMSP. Jennylyn personally chose CMSP since she promised the kids from this institution that she will come back when she first visited them last year.
The kids came with gifts for their Ate Jen, such as a rendition of her hit single “Kahit Sandali” from her first album. The program consisted of other songs and performances which the children specially prepared for this special event. The kids participated in the games conducted by a mascot and received gifts as well.
Dressed in a pink shirt, Capri jeans and sneakers, Jennylyn looked very happy while helping out serve food and give souvenirs for her guests. When the program ended, the kids spent their time trying out the different rides in Dreamscape at Robinson’s Galleria.
Right after celebrating with the children, the teen star rushed to Ali Mall in Cubao to spend time with her loyal followers. The mall was ablaze with lights and with screams from her fans who filled the mall just to catch a glimpse of the young lady and show their support. There were special numbers for the fans that afternoon, with some from Starstruck Batch 1 joining Jennylyn on stage.
When asked what her birthday wish was, Jennylyn responded “Sana marami pa akong matulungan at marami pa akong mapasaya.” This will certainly come true as long as she remains unselfish, kind and sincere in all her ways, and with the continuing love and support of her family, friends and fans.
