Now that she is set to start filming for her upcoming still-untitled horror movie, Vilma Santos was in high spirits when Push.com.ph caught up with her at the Star Cinema office. The veteran actress admitted that she was not surprised when she found out that her eldest son Luis Manzano also had plans to follow in her footsteps in the political arena in the future. “Tinanong ko siya kung someday interesado ba siya, sabi niya, ‘Yes why not?’ Imagine 14 years na ako as a public servant so yung anak kong isa 15 years old si Ryan yun na yung kinalakihan. So 14 years si Lucky yun ang nakikitang trabaho ko. So siguro kahit papano na-i-inspire siya,” she shared.
But the Batangas Governor said she made sure to inform Luis about what it takes to be a good public servant. “Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Anak just in case papasukin mo yan, gusto ko prepared siya and kung handa na siyang i-sakripisyo yung career niya kasi po yung trabahong ito, sakripisyo. Na-sacrifice ang movie career ko. But again no regrets kasi iba rin yung fulfillment ng isang public servant na pinagkakatiwalaan ka ng tao ng wala ang camera at walang bayad at naniniwala sa iyo na may magagawa ka for them and then may nagawa ka for them, yung pasasalamat nilang yun, yun ang priceless eh. So legacy yun eh,” she said.
When asked if she could comment on the current status of Luis’s relationship with rumored ladylove Jennylyn Mercado, Ate Vi refused to give any specifics but was obviously happy about the two. “Ha? Ewan ko sa inyo (laughs). Ayoko basta gusto ko lang sabihin masaya ang anak ko. Period. Walang comma! Sila ang habulin niyo at tanungin niyo. Hindi ako ang in love. Ayokong maging chismosa. Basta ang importante alam kong masaya ang anak ko. Hanggang dun lang kaya kong sabihin. Bayaan mo na. Yun lang. Tama na. (laughs). Ako rin gusto ko magsalita eh pero alangan namang mauna pa ako sa kanila. Bayaan mo, buhay nila yun and then sila na muna. Basta I guess what’s important is masaya sila,” she explained.
Ate Vi admitted that she has already met Jen several times and had nothing but positive things to say about the actress. “She’s very nice. She’s very nice in a way na taong tao kasi eh. Totoo eh. Kalog din kasi. Alam niyo naman si Luis napaka-kalog ‘di ba? Pasensiya na kayo sa kakalugan nung anak ko pero ganun talaga yun kaya masayang tao yun and siguro kaya sila nagki-click in a way, kalog din si Jen eh. Parang ano rin eh, down-to-earth, so yun,” she said.
The Star for All Seasons also demurred from commenting on her son’s choice of women because she would rather take the stance of a supportive mom instead. “Alam mo it’s not a matter of boto o hindi ako eh, ang importante sa magulang masaya ang anak. And then because at the end of the day, hindi ako ang makikisama, yung anak ko. And as a mother I guess ang pinaka-importante sa akin is maligaya ang anak ko, yun lang,” she said.
